VERY CONTROLLED ATTENDEE LIST! PLEASE ADD YOURSELF TO THE WAITING LIST! Read on for details:

Since I don't want anyone to have to sit out of the game, I will need to allocate space at each table to individuals based on which game they wish to play, how many people are wanting to attend, individual experience level, and how many brand new players sign up. There is no guarantee that you will be on the final list, but getting your name on the list early will definitely increase your chances, so please sign up ASAP! Also, being open to playing either of the current two featured games will help. Those insisting on playing one but not the other will stand more of a chance of being the "odd player" and being left out altogether, so being flexible will also serve as an advantage!

After spending several months last summer learning to play Bavarian Schafkopf, and a good portion of this winter learning Skat, I believe one thing should be apparent to all of us: the nation of Germany excels in the area of card games (I hear the same is true of their board games)! I feel so strongly about this that I have decided to devote our Friday games, which occur every other Friday, to playing these two wonderful games of skill, and very possibly others as well, as we learn them! I have also chosen a very appropriate venue for these games: the barroom at the German Cultural Center in Olmsted Township.

3 or 4 players are required at each table for these games (3 or 4 for Skat, 4 for Schafkopf). I have limited the RSVP choices to either NO or Waiting List. This is so that I can have complete control over filling the game tables with the proper number of players, and also limiting the number of brand new players attending, since these games are a bit more complex than other games we play, and therefore more challenging for me to teach. As the list grows, I will manually move individuals to the YES list based on their experience level, desired game, etc. so that I can play at a table with no more than 3 students while experienced players can play separately. You will receive an email to let you know if and when your status changes.

NOTE: These games are not for casual card players! A decent amount of skill is needed to play well, especially for Skat. If you are looking for a casual night of card play, with a lot of chit chat in between hands, I would recommend attending one of our other game nights. These Friday games stand a good chance of getting brutally competitive!

Thanks to all who were able to dig themselves out and brave the elements. Special thanks to Tom, Andrea and Joe for being such attentive students and fun to teach. I hope you found the game of Skat interesting and fun, if a bit complex. It all comes with practice, and here's a web site where you can download a Java applet to play online or versus other players or versus computer opponents: http://skatgame.n.... Gary, Jeannette and I are on there "occasionally". ;-) Send me a message if you want more info.
    •  Great fun & good people! Kevin is the best teacher
