See note in RED at the end of this description!

Our September Cribbage games were such a hit that I have decided to repeat it, plus, we have been asked to come back!

Cribbage is a card game traditionally for two players, but commonly played with three, four or more, that involves playing and grouping cards in combinations which gain points. Cribbage has several distinctive features: the Cribbage board used for scorekeeping, the eponymous crib (a separate hand counting for the dealer), two distinct scoring stages (the play and the show) and a unique scoring system including points for groups of cards that total fifteen.

According to John Aubrey, Cribbage was created by the English poet Sir John Suckling in the early 17th century, as a derivation of the game "Noddy". While Noddy has disappeared, Cribbage has survived, virtually unchanged, as one of the most popular games in the English-speaking world. The objective of the game is to be the first player to score a target number of points, typically 61 or 121. Points are scored for card combinations that add up to fifteen, and for pairs, triples, quadruples, runs and flushes.

Cribbage holds a special place among American submariners, serving as an "official" pastime. The wardroom of the oldest submarine in the fleet carries RADM Dick O'Kane's personal Cribbage board onboard, and upon decommissioning it is transferred to the next oldest boat.

Join us to play, or to learn, this classic game, in a fitting English Pub setting. We will try to play 2 to a game (the best way), so if anyone has a board, please bring it. I have all the cards we will need!

Also, The Pub is a great place to have your dinner, so feel free to arrive early and indulge. We will be sitting in the same section as last month, for those of you who were there! Otherwise, just ask to be seated with The Cleveland Card Game Players.

Who attended?

  • 7 attendees
    •  One no-show left us with an odd number, but we managed fine. Michael, it was good to finally play a game with you! Thanks for beating me! LOL. This is definitely a monthly event I look forward to. Thanks everyone!
    •  Super-fun!!! The game and all it's intricaies came back to me fairly quickley... sweet! (pun inteded, can you find it? *tee*) I played a couple of 2-person games with Mike who was so good and so quick with the counting that he reminded me of the times I'd play with my mom (and get skunked often). I then played a 3-person game that started with Mike and Gary and ended with Mike and a lovely lady whom I'd met at and earlier scrabble meetup but whose names escapes me (I'm so bad with names, so sowy!) afterwhich she and I played a 2-person game. I then hopped over to the big table where a 4-person game was going on. The and root beer I had were also tesertey! All-n-all a fabulous evening that was well worth the drive to the "way" west-side (from my Cleveland Hts perspective, anywho).
    •  Great evening as usual!
    •  Great meetup!
